Steven Sim urges Police to cancel the protest rally against Bukit Mertajam Hindu temple
Bukit Mertajam: Human resources Minister Steven Ting urged the authorities to cancel the the protest rally which is planned to be held on Saturday 7th of March, against the Hindu Temple located at the entrance of the Bukit Mertajam Hospital. Steven Sim is also the member of Parliament for Bukit Mertajam.
Steven urged the police not to allow such protests since such protests would only create unrest and animosity among the different races. Malaysia is a multiracial country, and therefore, no one should be allowed to become a hero by instigating racial and religious sentiments.
Steven also urged the respective groups to cancel the protest and not to create unrest. He said as a member of Parliament it is his responsibility to protect the Muslims as well as the non-Muslims and that he will fight for the rights and benefits of all the people in this country, irrespective of their race or religion.
Meanwhile, Penang Police Chief Datuk Hajiji Ismail urged the organisers to cancel the protest scheduled to take place on Saturday. He said it will cause unrest and animosity among races and further urged that the protest should be cancelled in view of the month of Ramadan. He warned that the Police would not hesitate to take action against the groups if they continued to protest against the Temple.
On the 3rd of March, Penang Hindu Endowment board Chairman and MP for Jelutong RSN Rayer lodged a police report against facebook posting that there will be a protest rally to demolish the Hindu Temple located at the entrance of the Bukit Mertajam Hospital.
