MIC Port Dickson Division suspended; Deputy President M. Saravanan takes over operations!
PORT DICKSON: The Central Working Committee (CWC) of the Malaysian Indian Congress (MIC) has temporarily suspended the party’s Port Dickson division, with MIC Deputy President Datuk Seri M. Saravanan (pic) assuming direct leadership over the division’s affairs.
The decision follows internal friction surrounding the Sri Tanjong state assembly seat, one of the state constituencies under the Port Dickson parliamentary constituency, during the recent Negeri Sembilan State Election.
Port Dickson MIC Division Chairman M. Achuthan Alagan contested the Sri Tanjong seat as the Barisan Nasional (BN) candidate but was defeated by Pakatan Harapan’s (PH) candidate, Dr Rajasekaran. Sri Tanjong was one of the two state seats won by PKR in the state election.
Prior to the state polls, unresolved internal disputes arose within the division following Achutan’s nomination as the candidate. Tensions escalated as several local branch leaders reportedly refused to cooperate or participate in election campaign activities alongside the division leadership.
In response, top party leadership, including MIC President Tan Sri SA Vigneswaran and Deputy President Datuk Seri M. Saravanan, made multiple visits to Port Dickson to mediate the disputes, smooth out internal friction, and manage ground campaigning.
Following the election, the MIC Central Working Committee formally resolved to temporarily suspend the Port Dickson division structure. To maintain party operations and re-establish organisational cohesion, CWC entrusted Deputy President M. Saravanan with direct oversight of the division’s administrative duties.
It was reported in Tamil media that official notification letters detailing the temporary suspension and leadership transition have been dispatched by MIC Headquarters to Negeri Sembilan Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Aminuddin Harun and division leaders.
