PM Anwar’s initiatives for the Indian community – Shanmugam Mookan outlines
PUTRAJAYA: Shanmugam Mookan, Special Duties Officer to Prime Minister Dato’ Seri Anwar Ibrahim, has outlined a comprehensive suite of government initiatives to uplift the Malaysian Indian community and address its long-standing socio-economic grievances.
Writing in a detailed Facebook post accompanied by an infographic, Shanmugam invoked a poignant line from the Vijay-starrer Jana Nayagan to urge the public to view the government’s efforts through a broader lens. “A simple line from the Vijay movie ‘Jana Nayagan’ that ‘Chamge takes time’ reminded us of the right thing at the right time” Shanmugam noted.
“For three years, the community has repeatedly asked: ‘What has genuinely changed under this administration?’ But are we evaluating the government’s holistic work, or are we judging its entire track record solely through the narrow lens of MITRA?” Shanmugam wrote.
He emphasised that the Prime Minister’s vision for the community spans multiple ministries and agencies, extending far beyond the scope of a single unit.
“For the Indian community to achieve sustainable progress, support must encompass education, entrepreneurship, Tamil language development, SJKT school facilities, temple maintenance, community infrastructure, and broader economic opportunities,” Shanmugam noted.
“No government is flawless, and constructive criticism is vital. However, three years is not the finish line of nation-building. Transformative policies and strategic initiatives require time to take root and yield tangible results,” Shanmugam said.
Cautioning against premature cynicism, Shanmugam urged the public to objectively weigh the administration’s progress. “It is easy to focus exclusively on what remains to be done,” he elaborated. “A fair assessment must also acknowledge what has already been allocated and executed, alongside the long-term frameworks currently being developed under the leadership of Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim. Before writing off the administration, we should ask ourselves: Are we judging this journey fairly, or are we missing the forest for the trees?”
