Amirudin Shari appointed as PKR Election Director – Nurul Izzah in search of new parliament seat!
SHAH ALAM: In a clear indication that PKR is steadily shifting its gears and mapping out strategic manoeuvres ahead of the 16th General Election (GE16), Selangor Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Amirudin Shari has been appointed as the party’s new General Election Director, replacing party Deputy President Nurul Izzah Anwar. Amirudin, who currently serves as a PKR Vice President, will be assisted in his new role by Saifuddin Nasution Ismail, who is also the Home Minister.
Following last year’s PKR party elections, in which Nurul Izzah won the Deputy presidency after defeating Rafizi Ramli, she was appointed Election Director, with Saifuddin Nasution Ismail serving as her deputy. These latest organisational changes within the party structure were officially announced by PKR Secretary-General Fuziah Salleh.
Concurrently, the Political Secretary to the Prime Minister, Azman Abidin, has been appointed as the director of PKR’s election strategy division, commonly known as the party’s ‘War Room’. Through these strategic appointments, it is evident that PKR has begun to formulate and implement structural changes with a firm eye on the upcoming 16th General Election.
Meanwhile, anticipation is building that Amirudin Shari will be given the opportunity to contest a parliamentary seat again in the next general election, to secure a position in the federal Cabinet if Pakatan Harapan forms the unity government again. It is highly likely that he will defend his current Gombak parliamentary seat.
On the other hand, there has been no official announcement regarding which constituency Nurul Izzah will contest in the next polls. However, speculation suggests she might run in Bandar Tun Razak, the constituency currently held by her mother, Wan Azizah. Wan Azizah is expected to give up her seat in favour of her daughter.
In the previous general election, Nurul Izzah lost in Permatang Pauh, a seat that had long been a traditional stronghold for the Anwar family.
Consequently, she is now compelled to contest a completely new constituency in the upcoming elections and she is expected to choose Bandar Tun Razak.
Meanwhile, Anwar Ibrahim is expected to give up his Tambun seat and return to Permatang Pauh, to wrest it from PAS-Perikatan Nasional.
