MIPP’s chances of winning seats in the Johor polls!
Johor Bahru: At the forthcoming Johor elections, the Malaysian Indian People’s Party (MIPP) is contesting five seats under the Perikatan Nasional (PN) banner: Bukit Permai, Paloh, Kota Iskandar, Pemanis, and Permas. Surprisingly, despite expectations, MIPP has avoided a direct showdown with MIC.
Instead, MIPP has strategically chosen Malay-majority constituencies where Indian voters are more than 10%, except for Pemanis, which has only 2.2% Indian voters.

Because these seats are predominantly Malay, if MIPP can leverage the PN banner to secure a solid share of Malay votes while sweeping the localised Indian minority, the debutant party could pull off an unexpected victory in one or two seats.
Only in Paloh is the MIPP candidate facing another Indian candidate, Dr Ruben Arumugam from DAP-PH. In all other 4 constituencies, MIPP’s contenders are Malay candidates from BN or PH. MIPP is contesting for the first time in Johor, and it will be interesting to see whether it will be able to win a seat with the help of PN’s election machinery.
