Anwar-Modi bilateral talks take place in New Delhi
NEW DELHI: Malaysian Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim held high-level bilateral discussions with Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi in New Delhi on the sidelines of the 18th BRICS Leaders’ Summit.
Arriving in the Indian capital last night to attend the summit as a BRICS Partner Country, Prime Minister Anwar met with his Indian counterpart to review bilateral relations and discuss expanding cooperation across multiple strategic sectors.
High-Level Delegation and Key Discussions
Prime Minister Anwar was joined by key members of the Malaysian delegation, including Human Resources Minister Datuk Seri R. Ramanan and Johari Bin Abdul Ghani, Minister of Investment, Trade and Industry. India’s delegation was led by Prime Minister Narendra Modi alongside External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar.
During the bilateral session, the two leaders reviewed progress on the India-Malaysia Comprehensive Strategic Partnership, focusing on trade and investment, semiconductors, the digital economy, fintech, energy, and defence. Both leaders shared photos of their meeting on their respective official social media accounts, with Prime Minister Modi describing his discussion with his “friend,” Prime Minister Anwar, as productive.
Itinerary Update: Kerala and Maldives Engagements
Addressing media queries in New Delhi via a video statement, Minister Ramanan confirmed the Prime Minister’s remaining itinerary.
After the BRICS Summit in New Delhi, Prime Minister Anwar will travel to the South Indian state of Kerala. In Kerala, he is scheduled to hold meetings with the State Governor, Chief Minister, and local dignitaries to discuss educational collaboration, talent development, and community initiatives.
From Kerala, Prime Minister Anwar will visit the Maldives to meet with Maldivian leadership before returning to Malaysia ahead of Malaysia Day.
