Muslims in Malaysia to celebrate Hari Raya Aidilfitri on Saturday (March 21)
KUALA LUMPUR: The Keeper of the Rulers’ Seal, Tan Sri Syed Danial Syed Ahmad (file pic), announced today that the Muslims in Malaysia will celebrate Hari Raya Aidilfitri on Saturday (March 21).
The announcement was broadcast live on national television. According to the Office of the Keeper of the Rulers’ Seal, the sighting of the new moon took place today.
With this announcement, Malaysians will enjoy an additional holiday tomorrow, Friday (March 20), as previously announced by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim.
Anwar announced that if Hari Raya falls on a Friday (March 20), the following Monday (March 23) would be an additional holiday, and if it falls on a Saturday (March 21), the additional holiday will be on the preceding Friday (March 20).
Meanwhile, according to reports, north- and southbound traffic was heavy on the leading highways, as travellers were flocking to hometowns and for holidays to take advantage of the government’s offer of 50% discount on all toll rates.
