KLSICCI – V.K.K. Rajasekaran elected as President
KUALA LUMPUR — V.K.K. Rajasekaran has been officially elected as the new President of the Kuala Lumpur-Selangor Indian Chamber of Commerce and Industry (KLSICCI), a prestigious and traditional institution currently marking just two years away from its historic centenary milestone. Incidentally, Rajasekaran’s father, Dato V.K.K. Teagarajan, had helmed the business chambers for a few terms.
In a highly contested and intensely monitored election, Rajasekaran secured the apex leadership chair by clinching 155 votes. He narrowly defeated his direct rival, Prabakaran Vaithilingam, who secured 148 votes, capturing the presidency by a razor-thin margin of just seven votes.
Mixed Outcomes for Vice-Presidency and Other Positions
While Rajasekaran celebrated his presidential victory, his running mate for the Deputy President portfolio faced a major upset. Panneerselvam, the Treasurer of the Malaysian Indian Metal Recycling Association, who was widely considered a formidable contender from Rajasekaran’s camp, suffered a defeat.
The Deputy President seat was instead claimed by Mogana Chinnathamby from the opposing faction led by V. Prabakaran. Mohana garnered 166 votes, while Panneerselvam secured only 137 votes.
Despite the loss of the deputy chair, Rajasekaran’s alliance dominated the remainder of the executive lineup:
-
Vice-President: Dr Chitra Devi emerged victorious with 153 votes, edging out Prabakaran’s candidate, Kavimaran (Kumaran Muniyandi), who received 149 votes.
-
Treasurer: I.R. Prabakaran claimed the portfolio by securing 158 votes, defeating Shanmuga Selvi, who obtained 144 votes.
KLSICCI Council’s new Lineup
The organisational polls also finalised the election of the 14-member council. Aside from the single defeat in the Deputy President category, the rest of Rajasekaran’s designated line-up successfully swept the remaining board seats.
