Subang MP Wong Chen’s resignation deepens PKR Party Crisis!

KUALA LUMPUR- PKR Subang Member of Parliament Wong Chen (pic) has officially submitted his resignation as a Member of Parliament, dealing another significant blow to the People’s Justice Party (PKR), which is already grappling with mounting internal political pressure.

In a statement posted on his official Facebook page, Wong confirmed that he met with Dewan Rakyat Speaker Johari Abdul on August 5 to tender his formal resignation letter. He stated that his resignation will take official effect from August 10, at 5:00 PM. Further details regarding his future plans are expected to be announced during a press conference scheduled for Wednesday (12 August).

Wong’s departure comes as PKR faces heightened turmoil following high-profile exits from the party. Former Pandan MP Rafizi Ramli and former Setiawangsa MP Nik Nazmi Nik Ahmad previously resigned from their parliamentary seats before joining the revamped political party, Bersama, where they currently serve as President and Deputy President, respectively.

Adding to the leadership shifts, Nurul Izzah Anwar, who had defeated Rafizi Ramli to secure the position of PKR Deputy President, recently announced her step-down from the post, citing plans to pursue higher education. Although PKR issued a statement clarifying that Nurul Izzah was taking a temporary leave of absence rather than resigning permanently, she has yet to publicly endorse or confirm the party’s statement.

Meanwhile, reports indicate that Nurul Izzah named Home Minister Saifuddin Nasution Ismail as the interim Deputy President during her absence.

Wong Chen, a long-time associate and supporter of Rafizi Ramli, had previously voiced public dissatisfaction with PKR’s top leadership over recent months. Following his resignation, political analysts widely expect Wong to join the Bersama party headed by Rafizi.

This series of internal developments reflects growing distrust within the party, contrasting with earlier expectations of reform under Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim’s leadership.

All eyes are now on August 16, a crucial date when DAP party delegates will vote to determine whether the party continues its participation in the government coalition.

In a separate development, reports have surfaced that Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim has been admitted to hospital and has undergone medical treatment.
