Tan Sri Vigneswaran Chess championship for Selangor Tamil schools launched
Sungai Renggam: A total of 524 students from Tamil schools across Selangor took part in the Tan Sri S.Vigneswaran Chess Championship between Tamil Schools in Negeri Selangor 2026, held at SRJK (T) Sungai Renggam on Saturday 14th of March 2026.
The tournament was jointly organised by the Selangor State Malaysian Indian Congress (MIC) and the Selangor Tamil Schools HeadmastersĀ Council, with support from Maju Institute of Educational Development, AIMST University and the MIC Sports Bureau.

Officiating the championship, the guest of honour, MIC President Tan Sri S.A.Vigneswaran,Ā highlighted that chess is more than just a recreational activity, describing it as an important platform that helps nurture strategic thinking, discipline and confidence among students.
He noted that initiatives such as the championships play a crucial role in identifying and developing young talent while cultivating a generation that is intellectually sharp and competitive.
The organisers also congratulated all 524 participants who took part in the tournament, expressing hope that such programmes would continue to inspire students to strive for excellence not only in co-curricular activities but also in their academic pursuits.
