Tengku Zafrul declares readiness to contest Pandan in GE16 under PKR
KUALA LUMPUR – Amidst speculations as to which PKR candidate would take on Rafizi Ramli in Pandan Parliament constituency, Senior Political Secretary to the Prime Minister, Tengku Dato’ Sri Zafrul Abdul Aziz, has expressed his readiness to defend the Pandan parliamentary seat in the upcoming 16th General Election (GE16), provided he is given the mandate by Parti Keadilan Rakyat (PKR). Tengku Zafrul is also the chairman of MIDA.
“I am prepared to contest anywhere, given the opportunity, but this decision ultimately rests with the party,” he stated. He made these remarks when asked to comment on the possibility of throwing his hat into the ring for the Pandan constituency following the departure of its incumbent, Dato’ Seri Rafizi Ramli, who resigned from PKR on May 17 and subsequently vacated the seat.
Meanwhile, posts from Tengku Zafrul’s social media pages reveal that he is actively participating in various events in Pandan and meeting voters.
Earlier, PKR President and Prime Minister Dato’ Seri Anwar Ibrahim announced that he would adopt the Pandan parliamentary constituency and appointed Tengku Zafrul as the monitoring officer to oversee the constituency.
Rafizi, alongside former Setiawangsa Member of Parliament Nik Nazmi Nik Ahmad, had recently announced their exit from PKR to take over Parti Bersama Malaysia (BERSAMA) as their new political vehicle.
