Anwar Ibrahim makes historic visit to AIMST University – approves RM26 million annual government grant!

Sungei Petani – In a major development reinforcing the federal administration’s commitment to minority socio-economic advancement and tertiary academic excellence, Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim executed an official working visit to AIMST University on Sunday, 7th of June 2026.

The high-profile visit stands as a powerful symbol of the government’s recognition of private higher education institutions and underscores the unwavering commitment of AIMST University and the Maju Institute of Educational Development (MIED) in widening access to quality education.

The Prime Minister arrived at the university’s green campus, accompanied by a high-level delegation, including the Minister of Higher Education, Datuk Seri Dr Zambry Abdul Kadir.

The ministerial delegation was received with immense warmth by AIMST University Chancellor and MIC National President, Tan Sri S.A. Vigneswaran, alongside Pro-Chancellor and MIC National Deputy President, Datuk Seri M. Saravanan. Members of the MIED Board of Directors were also present in the vanguard to mark the historic reception.

The RM26 Million Endowment

The central milestone of the working visit was the formal presentation of an Annual Government Grant totalling RM25 million directly to AIMST University. This year, the Prime Minister added another RM 1 million to the annual grant, bringing the total to RM 26 million.

This multi-million-ringgit federal allocation is set to significantly strengthen the university’s structural capabilities, fund ongoing educational initiatives, and ensure that high-calibre medical, technical, and academic training remains financially accessible to deserving students from all segments of society.

According to institutional representatives present at the event, this memorable occasion represents a major step forward in strengthening the strategic bridge between state leadership and community-driven educational trusts.

By injecting this significant financial anchor, the federal government has directly empowered AIMST University’s foundational mission: to uplift future generations, catalyse socio-economic mobility, and preserve a clean heritage of academic excellence for the nation.
