Segambut Tamil school gets running track – Thanks to MP Hannah Yeoh!
KUALA LUMPUR – A brand-new 100-meter athletics track has been successfully constructed at SJKT Segambut to significantly enhance and elevate the sporting talents of its students.
The facility was built at the request of the school administration and the Parent-Teacher Association (PTA). According to Hannah Yeoh, Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department (Federal Territories) and Member of Parliament for Segambut, the infrastructure aims to optimise the school’s existing field facilities.
The newly completed 8-lane, 100-meter running track was constructed at a total cost of RM396,219.80, fully funded by allocations from the Segambut Parliamentary Constituency Office.
“With 440 students currently enrolled at this school, this state-of-the-art track will serve as an excellent catalyst to inspire, encourage, and nurture sporting excellence among the younger generation,” stated MP Hannah Yeoh during the project overview.
Expressing deep gratitude on behalf of the community, the school’s PTA Chairman, Suresh Kumar Vijayan, hailed the initiative as a major milestone. He noted that the newly laid track provides a constructive platform that will empower students to achieve athletic success not only at the national level but also on international stages.
“The school administration originally approached MP Hannah Yeoh’s office with a request to upgrade our field infrastructure,” Suresh Kumar explained. “Her swift approval and the rapid execution of this track project clearly demonstrate her profound care and unwavering commitment to the welfare of Tamil schools and their students.”
During her recent official working visit to the school to inspect the completed running track, Hannah Yeoh met with Headmistress Mrs Letchumi Sadhu, PTA Chairman Suresh Kumar, School Board of Governors Chairman Veera Arunachalam, and other board officials and PTA members to assess the current updates and operational needs of the institution.
“I am pleased to announce the completion of a new 8 x 100m Sprint Track at Sekolah Jenis Kebangsaan Tamil (SJKT) Segambut, together with the school principal, YDP PIBG, PIBG members, LPS members and ICU WPKL. This major upgrading project, costing a total of RM396,219.80, was funded through my Member of Parliament’s allocation under the Projek Mesra Rakyat (PMR) at the request of the school’s PIBG. The project was overseen by the contractor appointed by ICU WPKL, with upgrading works beginning in December 2025 and completed in April 2026,” Hannah Yeoh posted on her Facebook page.
“With this brand-new sprint track, I hope to see more talented national sprinters born not only at SJKT Segambut but also in the surrounding communities in Segambut. I believe every child deserves opportunities not only to do well academically but also to grow beyond the classroom. As we continue investing in the betterment of our schools and students, we are also investing in the future of our nation,” Hannah Yeoh further noted on her post, while thanking all parties involved in making this project a success.
