Barisan Nasional secures 48 seats – Pakatan only 8 – Others none!
Johor Bahru: Barisan Nasional has achieved a major milestone by securing 48 seats in the Johor state election, crossing its earlier mark of 40 seats achieved in the 2022 state assembly elections.
Leading up to the announcement, there was intense speculation about whether the political coalition could surpass its previous record of 40 state assembly seats or fall short. While their victory was generally anticipated, the exact number of seats won dominated media coverage and public interest.
Meanwhile, Pakatan Harapan won the remaining 8 seats. Notably, neither the Perikatan coalition nor any other competing parties won a single seat in this election. Pakatan Harapan-PKR candidate Dr Maszlee Malik won the Puteri Wangsa constituency, making it the only seat for PKR. PKR contested 20 seats but won only one.
DAP contested 17 seats but won only 6. Surprisingly, MIC won all 4 seats it contested. In 2022, MIC won only 3 of the 4 seats it contested.
Another PH component, Amanah, contested 19 seats but won only 1.
MCA has also performed well. Contesting 15 seats under the BN banner, MCA secured 8 seats, 2 seats more than DAP.
Among all the parties, UMNO is rated the best performer, winning 36 of the 37 seats it contested.
The Johor results are viewed as a significant setback for the DAP.
With the Johor election settled, anticipation is now building over whether the Barisan Nasional can mirror this resounding success in the upcoming elections in Negeri Sembilan.
DAP Secretary-General Anthony Loke will likely face a tough challenge ahead. Because Negeri Sembilan is his home state, he is expected to fight fiercely to secure a DAP victory there. Loke, who is also competing for a state assembly seat in Negeri Sembilan, currently serves as a Member of Parliament for Seremban.
As the excitement surrounding the Johor state election draws to a close, the focus shifts entirely to Negeri Sembilan, where the political campaign is set to intensify starting tomorrow.
