Saravanan writes to Education Minister & PMX to maintain Tamil language teaching hours!

KUALA LUMPUR: MIC Deputy President and Member of Parliament for Tapah, Datuk Seri M. Saravanan, has officially written to Education Minister Datuk Seri Fadhlina Sidek to strongly object to any proposed reduction in Tamil language teaching hours in SJK (Tamil) schools under the upcoming 2027 school curriculum restructuring.

The letter, also sent to Prime Minister YAB Dato’ Seri Anwar Ibrahim, highlights widespread concerns from teachers, parents, Parent-Teacher Associations (PTAs), and the broader Indian community about a plan to reduce Tamil language periods from 12 to 10 per week.

Saravanan, also the Member of Parliament for Tapah, emphasised that Tamil schools are the primary stronghold for preserving the heritage, cultural identity, and future sustainability of the Tamil language in Malaysia. He stressed that mother-tongue education extends beyond basic daily communication, forming an essential foundation for a student’s intellect, emotional development, and values during their formative years.
