Gopeng Tamil School allocated RM 14.5 million for new building structures

GOPENG – Deputy Education Minister Wong Kah Woh has announced a substantial RM14.5 million allocation for the construction of a new building at SJKT Gopeng, Perak. The announcement was made during his official visit to the school on Friday, March 27.

The project involves the construction of a modern three-storey block to replace the school’s ageing, deteriorating existing structures.

SJKT Gopeng, an institution with a rich 80-year history, has recently faced structural issues due to the age of its current buildings. To address this, the new facility will house the following:
* Six modern classrooms
* An administrative office
* A dedicated teachers’ staff room
* Storage rooms for sports equipment

Construction is expected to commence by the end of this year, with a projected completion timeline of 22 months from the start date.

Accompanying the Deputy Minister were Perak State Executive Councillor (EXCO) Datuk A. Sivanesan and Gopeng Member of Parliament Tan Kar Hing.

During the visit, Datuk Sivanesan emphasised that the upgrade would provide students with a conducive learning environment equipped with modern amenities. He expressed hope that the new infrastructure would bolster parents’ confidence in the school and lead to increased student enrollment.

Reflecting on the school’s history, Datuk Sivanesan noted that the institution was originally known as “Thiruvalluvar Tamil School.” He expressed curiosity regarding when and why the school’s name was changed from its original historical title to its current designation.

The project is viewed as a significant investment in the educational future of the Indian community in Gopeng, ensuring that historical institutions evolve to meet modern academic standards.
