MIC’s letter to Muhyiddin merely seeks clarifications – not an application!

KUALA LUMPUR: The Malaysian Indian Congress (MIC) has recently reaffirmed its commitment to the Barisan Nasional (BN) coalition following a high-level Central Working Committee meeting.

However, a day after the meeting, another controversy arose when Datuk Seri Takiyuddin Hassan, the Secretary-General of Perikatan Nasional and a leader in PAS, claimed that MIC had previously submitted an application to join PN.

To support his claim, Takiyuddin cited a letter addressed to Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin, who served as the Chairman of Perikatan Nasional when the letter was reportedly submitted.

The letter, which has since entered the public domain, reportedly includes an expression of gratitude toward Muhyiddin Yassin for considering MIC’s potential involvement with the coalition. It also sought clarification on several specific terms regarding the alliance.

However, MIC maintains that the letter was merely a request for information and clarification regarding PN’s structure and objectives. The letter also states that MIC is one of the founders of the PN coalition.

The letter did not state that we ‘wish to join’ or ‘consent to join’ Perikatan Nasional. Instead, it was framed as a due diligence inquiry.

According to some MIC sources, MIC is likely to remain in BN until the next general election, whenever it takes place.

The following is the letter from MIC to Tan Sri Muhyiddin released to the media.
