MIC decides to stay with BN, for now!
KUALA LUMPUR – As widely expected, the MIC has decided to stay with Barisan Nasional (BN) for the time being. The decision, made today (Wednesday, March 25) at the Central Working Committee (CWC), was announced by the party’s Deputy President, Datuk Seri M. Saravanan, at the party’s headquarters.
In announcing the decision, Saravanan said the decision was based on several factors. The change in leadership within Perikatan Nasional (PN) is one of the main reasons MIC has decided not to leave BN for now.
Last year, the MIC’s general assembly unanimously passed a resolution to leave BN, but left the final decision to President Tan Sri S. Vigneswaran and the party’s Central Working Committee. Tan Sri Muhyiddin was then the Chairman of PN but later resigned. Terengganu Menteri Besar and PAS leader Ahmad Samsuri is now the chairman of PN.
The internal turmoil that has swept BERSATU has resulted in the expulsion of opposition leader Hamzah Zainuddin from the party, along with several other MPs.
Saravanan said that, in view of the change in leadership at PN, MIC will have to gather feedback from its grassroots before making further decisions on this matter.
