Gobind Singh: “DAP Celebrates 60th Anniversary with Call for Renewed Reform and Unity”

KUALA LUMPUR: The Democratic Action Party (DAP) officially marked its 60th anniversary, with National Chairman Gobind Singh Deo releasing a celebratory statement that reflected on six decades of political struggle and reaffirmed the party’s commitment to the current Unity Government.

In a statement titled “DAP at 60: Honouring the Past, Building Malaysia’s Future,” Gobind described the party’s journey as one defined by “perseverance, principle, and service to the nation.” He emphasised that the core of the party’s mission since 1966 has been the fundamental belief that Malaysia belongs to all its citizens, regardless of background.

A Legacy of Reform

Reflecting on the party’s historical impact, the National Chairman noted that DAP has been a primary advocate for strengthening democratic institutions and defending civil liberties.

“The progress we see today—stronger institutions and greater public awareness—stands as a testament to the collective struggle of the very many who refused to give up on the nation’s promise,” the statement read. Gobind credited the party’s long-term advocacy for the increased transparency and institutional checks and balances currently seen in the Malaysian democratic process.

Future within the Unity Government

Now a key partner in the federal Unity Government, DAP remains focused on delivering “meaningful reforms” rather than simply occupying office. The party’s vision for the future is a prosperous nation grounded in integrity, where economic growth is equitably shared among the people.

Gobind also expressed full confidence in the current leadership under Secretary-General Anthony Loke Siew Fook, stating that the party moves forward as a “united front.”

Renewal of Resolve

The 60-year milestone was characterised as a moment for a “renewal of resolve” for party members and grassroots leaders. Gobind concluded the address with a call to build a Malaysia that is not only democratic and inclusive but also “united, strong, and successful.”
