VCK leader Thiruma surprises everyone by contesting in Assembly elections in a strategic move!
CHENNAI: In a development that has surprised political observers, Viduthalai Chiruthaigal Katchi (VCK) president Thol. Thirumavalavan has announced his candidacy for the upcoming Tamil Nadu Assembly elections.
As part of the DMK-led alliance, the VCK has been allocated eight constituencies. While announcing the candidates for these seats, Thirumavalavan confirmed that he would personally contest from the Kattumannarkoil assembly segment.
Thirumavalavan currently serves as the Member of Parliament (MP) for Chidambaram. His decision to run for a state assembly seat marks a significant strategic pivot toward direct involvement in state-level governance. The Kattumannarkoil constituency is one of the six assembly segments within his current Chidambaram parliamentary constituency.
Addressing the move, Thirumavalavan stated that the landscape of Tamil Nadu politics is expected to undergo a major transformation following this election. He expressed a desire to be at the forefront of this change by engaging directly with the state’s legislative process.
All eight VCK candidates, including Thirumavalavan, will contest the elections using the party’s independent “Pot” symbol. Alongside his own candidacy, the VCK leader released the names of the remaining seven candidates who will represent the party in its allotted seats.
The announcement coincided with a high-level meeting of the DMK-led coalition. DMK President M.K. Stalin hosted a tea meeting for all alliance party leaders yesterday to discuss election strategies and to ensure a unified front as the state prepares for the polls.
