Vijay walks into Police station to lodge a complaint against…
CHENNAI: In his first direct legal action since entering the political arena, Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) President and actor Vijay visited the Director General of Police (DGP) office last night to file a formal complaint against Ponraj, a former aide to late President APJ Abdul Kalam. The complaint alleges that Ponraj made “low-level” and “disgraceful” derogatory remarks targeting women associated with the TVK party in a recently circulated video.
The formal petition submitted by Vijay alleges that Ponraj is an extreme supporter of the ruling DMK party. The TVK leader alleged that Ponraj has been speaking in an uncivilised manner, believing he is “untouchable” due to the perceived protection and embrace of the DMK leadership.
“Ponraj, who functions as an intense supporter of the DMK, has been criticising women in a very base manner,” the petition stated. “He is crossing boundaries and speaking indecently under the impression that no one can control him because he is backed by the ruling party.”
The complaint was received by Additional Director General of Police (Law and Order) Maheshwar Dayal. Following a brief discussion, the ADGP assured the TVK delegation that appropriate legal action would be taken.
This visit marks a significant milestone in Vijay’s political career, as it is the first time he has personally visited the state police headquarters to intervene in a legal dispute since launching his party.
Speaking to reporters after the meeting, TVK Central Executive Committee Coordinator Sengottaiyan condemned the remarks, linking them directly to the current political climate.
“Our leader Vijay came in person and signed the petition to highlight how Ponraj has insulted women with the support and backing of the DMK,” Sengottaiyan said. “He should have spoken with his own mother and sisters in mind. The only reason he exceeded his limits is the support he receives from the background.”
He concluded by stating that the public is closely watching to see what steps the current government will take against Ponraj in response to this high-profile complaint.
