Pakatan Harapan fields 5 Indian candidates – 3 from DAP; 2 from PKR!
Seremban: In anticipation of the Negeri Sembilan state assembly election on August 1, 2026, the Pakatan Harapan (PH) coalition has announced five Indian candidates to contest under its banner. The official nomination of candidates is set for Saturday, July 18, 2026, prompting various political coalitions to begin unveiling their lineups.
The candidate list for PH was revealed by Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim, who also serves as the Chairman of Pakatan Harapan, during a major alliance campaign rally on Tuesday night (July 14).
Under this announcement, the PKR, a key component of PH, will field two Indian candidates out of the 36 state seats it is contesting. Meanwhile, the Democratic Action Party (DAP), another coalition member, is fielding three Indian candidates.
Among the DAP candidates are incumbent assemblymen J. Arul Kumar and S. Veerapan, who will contest the Nilai and Repah constituencies, respectively. Datuk P.Gunasegaran, the current DAP state assemblyman for Seremban Jaya, is not seeking re-election. DAP is fielding 40-year-old Mugunthan to replace him in Seremban Jaya.
On the PKR side, Dr Rajasekaran has been chosen to run in the Sri Tanjong constituency, which forms part of the Port Dickson Parliament. For the Jeram Padang constituency, which features a significant Indian voter base of approximately 33%, the coalition has selected S. Mani Vannan. Mani Vannan, who currently serves as the division chairman for Jempol, was appointed last year as one of the political secretaries to PKR president Anwar Ibrahim. Notably, the Jeram Padang state seat falls under the larger Jempol parliamentary constituency.
