Hamzah Zainudin: Re-emergence but which party?

Kuala Lumpur: Adding further volatility to an already fragile political equilibrium, Larut Member of Parliament and former Home Minister Hamzah Zainudin, who was recently expelled from Bersatu, is reportedly preparing to align with a new political vehicle in mid-June. Due to the restrictive bureaucratic timelines for registering a brand-new political party, insider reports suggest that Hamzah will instead take the helm of a pre-existing, dormant political entity.

Despite his institutional ouster, Hamzah retains the absolute loyalty of a substantial faction of sitting Bersatu MPs, and a further wave of defections from his former party is widely anticipated to flow into his new political outfit.

For the past several weeks, Hamzah has been traversing the nation under the banner of his ‘RESET’ movement, systematically mobilising Bersatu grassroots cadres and testing his organisational strength. This RESET movement is widely perceived as the ideological and structural precursor to his upcoming political party. Whether Hamzah’s new vehicle will operate as an independent wildcard, integrate directly into Perikatan Nasional (PN), or dive headfirst into the upcoming Johor and Melaka state elections remains a compelling open question.

Some reports suggested that Hamzah would merge with PEJUANG, a political party now led by Mukhriz Mahathir, founded by his father, Tun Mahathir Mohamad.
