Najib house arrest: Anthony Loke resigns! Why not other DAP Ministers?
PUTRAJAYA: Transport Minister and DAP Secretary-General Anthony Loke has announced his resignation from the Cabinet after the decision on the royal pardon and house arrest order for former Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak.
Despite Loke’s decision, it has been reported that other DAP Cabinet ministers will remain in their posts and will not be stepping down.
The party reached the decision after a three-hour DAP Central Executive Committee (CEC) meeting at its headquarters today. Loke announced his decision during a press conference shortly after the meeting concluded.
Commenting on the development, a political analyst observed that DAP’s stance lacks clarity and fails to reflect a unified position. The analyst noted that if DAP opposes the decision regarding Najib’s release or house arrest, all of its Cabinet members should resign collectively. Specifically, Housing and Local Government Minister Nga Kor Ming had previously declared during the Johor state election campaign that he would resign if Najib were released. The analyst highlighted that with other DAP ministers remaining in office while only Loke steps down, questions arise regarding the party’s true position.
Loke said he made the decision to ensure overall political stability. However, he has not yet specified the exact date his resignation will take effect. Meanwhile, Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim has not issued an official statement on the matter.
