BN Sec Gen Zambry Abd Kadir welcomes MIC’s decision to remain in BN

KUALA LUMPUR – Barisan Nasional (BN) Secretary General Datuk Seri Zambry Abdul Kadir has congratulated the MIC’s CWC decision to remain in BN as a reflection of the party’s loyalty, political maturity and commitment to national stability.

On Wednesday (March 25) MIC made a decision to stay with Barisan Nasional (BN) for the time being.  The decision was announced by the party’s Deputy President, Datuk Seri M. Saravanan, at the party’s headquarters.

In announcing the decision, Saravanan said the decision was based on several factors. The change in leadership within Perikatan Nasional (PN) is one of the main reasons MIC has decided not to leave BN for now.

Zambry described MIC’s decision as “clear, firm and forward-looking”, noting that BN has endured multiple political and racial challenges since the Perikatan era (1955–1973) and through its formation from 1974 to the present.

Last year, the MIC’s general assembly unanimously passed a resolution to leave BN, but left the final decision to President Tan Sri S. Vigneswaran and the party’s Central Working Committee. Tan Sri Muhyiddin was then the Chairman of PN but later resigned. Terengganu Menteri Besar and PAS leader Ahmad Samsuri is now the chairman of PN.

Saravanan had said that, in view of the change in leadership at PN, MIC will have to gather feedback from its grassroots before making further decisions on this matter.

MIC sources said the party may choose to support the present Madani government until it serves its full term, which ends in November 2022.

Zambry also noted that the BN is undergoing restructuring, strengthening its organisation, and updating its approach to better respond to people’s needs.

There are also speculations that BN, with renewed strength, may contest as a single coalition in the 16th general election, without a formal coalitioning any alliance with Pakatan Harapan.
